We are in the month of Aries that represents the archetype of the warrior and the warrioress. It is the fiery energy able to initiate, to move through inertia, to fight for justice. The initiator of transformation. Although we are about to transit into Taurus, I want to share a story, that always inspired me. It is all about warriors, peacocks and transmutation. And as I see the crazy news today, where battles are fought in the name of misguided power and control, I deeply feel the need for us, as yogis, to become ever more committed to our practices and to be brave to fight both the outer battles, in the form of our fierce commitment to our values, and our inner battles. The battles for deep healing, the battles for a life of love.<\/p>\n
Once upon a time, there was a thousand-eyed demon called Tarakasura<\/em>. Trough his austerities, he obtained a boon so he could only get killed by, no one else than, Shiva<\/em>´s son. Shiva<\/em> was very well known for her fierce asceticism. After the tragic death of her beloved Sati<\/em>, who jumped into her father´s ceremonial fire feeling dishonored by him (by her father), everyone doubted he would ever marry again. Taraka<\/em> felt powerful and indestructible, freely terrorizing and destroying all the three worlds, even the Heaven of the Gods.<\/p>\n The Gods fervently invoked the Maha Devi<\/em> (the primordial Shakti<\/em>, the Great Femenine power) through rituals, prayer, mantra and ceremony, so she would incarnate as a Goddess to gain Shiva<\/em>´s heart again. She became embodied as Parvati<\/em>, the daughter of the mountain and, after a very long story, she married Shiva.<\/p>\n All the Gods are happy. Now Shiva can have a son. But the love-making between Shiva<\/em> and Parvati<\/em> is so intense, and the seed of their love so hot, that no one can hold it. Not even Parvati<\/em>. So she gives the seed to her sister Svaha<\/em>, Agni<\/em>´s wife (the fire God). But even her, that is hot and fiery, can only hold it for a limited time. So she put it inside the cold waters of Goddess Ganga. After a while, Ganga passed it on to the forest Goddess Aranyani, that plants the seed into the fertile soil. It is so that through all this different places, a symbol of the different yogic paths of transformation, a beautiful six-headed boy is born. Vishnu<\/em> asked the six Krittika<\/em> star devis to suckle the newborn baby. He took six separate forms until Parvati<\/em> came and brought the six babies together again in an embrace.<\/p>\n His name was Kartikeya<\/em>, also known as Skanda<\/em> or Murugan. <\/em>He became the Lord of War, and the best of the warriors, as this was his dharma<\/em>. He is described in the Skanda Purana<\/em> as brave and intelligent, a great devotee of Shiva<\/em>, his father, and with the charisma of a leader that will guide Gods and men into battle to defeat the demon Taraka<\/em>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Fila”][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”http:\/\/www.rasalilayoga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/dreamstimemaximum_60081203-smaill-.jpg” animation=”off” admin_label=”Imagen”][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texto”]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And so it was. When, after a long battle, he killed such a horrible beast he thought, “how could I turn this disaster into beauty?”<\/em>. And so he transformed the thousand eyes of the demon into the feathers of the peacock. And the peacock became his vahana<\/em> or vehicle of Consciousness, as a symbol of transmutation, of what it is possible to do with the ugliest of our experiences.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Fila”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_blurb admin_label=”Anuncio” background_color=”#d1d1d1″]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n \n There is a similar story in Greek Mythology in which the Goddess Hera<\/em>, Goddess of women and marriage, creates the peacock from Argus<\/em>, a hundred-eyed gigant.<\/p>\n Since then the tail feathers of the peacock symbolize the “eyes of the star” and the all-seeing knowledge.<\/p>\n \n \n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texto”]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Such a beautiful way in which the ancestral wisdom tell us that the yogic power, the one that spring forth from the inner marriage of Shiva and Shakti, of our inner self and our outer actions, is all about transmuting experiences into beauty; about allowing creativity to flow from the battle grounds of the heart; about transforming grieve into hope, anger into acceptance, fear into love, limitations into wisdom. I felt many times inspired by this story. Inspired to create, to paint, to sing,… or to write. And you? Y me parece a\u00fan m\u00e1s apropiada hoy, al leer las noticias terribles de las guerras en nombre del poder mal enfocado y del control. Hay una necesidad imperiosa de que, como yogis, nos comprometamos a\u00fan m\u00e1s con nuestras pr\u00e1cticas, en la esterilla y fuera de ella; \u00a0de que conectemos con la valent\u00eda para luchar en nuestras batallas, tanto externas, en forma de fiel\u00a0compromiso con nuestros valores, como internas. Las batallas internas de sanaci\u00f3n profunda; las batallas internas por una vida en la que triunfa el amor.<\/p> \u00c9rase una vez, un demonio con mil ojos llamado Tarakasura<\/em>. A trav\u00e9s de sus austeridades, obtuvo la bendici\u00f3n por parte del dios creador Brahmma, de que solo podr\u00eda morir a manos de un hijo de Shiva<\/em>. Shiva era bien conocido por su asceticism feroz. Despu\u00e9s de la tr\u00e1gica muerte de su amada Sati<\/em>, que se inmol\u00f3 en el fuego ceremonial organizado por su padre al sentirse deshonrada por \u00e9l (por su padre), nadie apostaba por una nueva boda. Ni siquiera Parvati,\u00a0<\/em>que le da\u00a0esta semilla a su hermana Svaha<\/em>, esposa de Agni, Dios del Fuego. Incluso a pesar de su naturaleza de fuego y calor, \u00a0tampoco puede aguantarla por mucho tiempo. La coloca en las aguas heladas de la Diosa Ganga<\/em>. Esta a su vez se la pasa a la Diosa del Bosque Aranyani<\/em>, que planta la semilla en el suelo f\u00e9rtil del bosque.\u00a0 Y as\u00ed, contagiado de todas estas energ\u00edas, que simbolizan los diferentes caminos de transformaci\u00f3n del yoga, nace un hermoso ni\u00f1o con seis cabezas. Vishnu<\/em> les pide a las Diosas de las estrellas, las Krittika<\/em>, que amamanten al ni\u00f1o, que toma as\u00ed seis formas independientes. Cuando su madre,\u00a0Parvati,<\/em> viene a por \u00e9l, con un abrazo, \u00a0funde a las seis criaturas en una sola de nuevo.<\/p> Su nombre es Kartikeya<\/em>, conocido tambi\u00e9n como Skanda<\/em> o Murugan<\/em>. Se convierte en el Se\u00f1or de la Guerra y en el mejor guerrero \u00a0porque ese era su dharma.
