Patanjali Yoga Sutras
These are the recommended versions. You only need one.
- Light on the Yoga Sutras – B.K.S. Iyengar.
- The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. A new edition, translation and commentary with insights from the traditional commentators. Edwin f. Bryant
- The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. A new translation and commentary. Georg Feuerstein.

Bhagavad Gita
These are the recommended versions. You only need one.
- Bhagavad Gita by Juan Mascaró.
- Bhagavad Gita introduced and translated by Eknath Easwaran. Beautiful and inspiring commentaries.
- Bhagavad Gita translated by Winthrop Sergeant. In this version each page is dedicated to a verse that os written in Sanskrit and English. Each word in Sanskrit shows also its individual meaning in English.
- Bhagavad Gita. A new translation, Stephen Mitchell. Very poetic and easy to read. Maybe not so precise in translation.
- The Bhagavad Gita. J.A.B. van Buyten. In prose. Easy to read. Priority of meaning over rhythm.
- Bhagavad Gita: the Song of God translated by Swami Prabhavananda & Christopher Isherwood.
- Poised for Grace: Annotations on the Bhagavad Gita from a Tantric view. Douglas Brooks. Very interesting from the Tantric perspective.
